“I guess so…” He said softly, not sure how to respond to the red head other than staring at her rather baffled. She trusted the man and he wondered if she knew more about him than Extractor could ever manage to dig up on the man. He sighed, looking around and seeing how Hermes already made his way to his leg to rub against him and purr loudly, a smile on his face as he leaned down and picked up the cat gently even though it seemed to let out a loud defiant meow at him and climbed over his shoulder to sit there much like a bird would.
“Your cat is very …unique.” He managed to get the word out before he smiled a bit, looking over at Anthea. “What have you been up to? I mean, other than what I know of when I slip in once in a while.”
Extractor smiled a bit, she seemed to be doing fine on her own and she wasn’t harmed. Her thoughts even seemed to be doing alright and she had a cat to keep her company when she was alone. When she mentioned the idea of teaching the other man how to cook he couldn’t help but wonder if people like him could cook or even learn how to. He wondered if that was something normal, and he was almost tempted to ask Anthea about what Grimm was. The man didn’t feel right at all and he hoped Anthea knew that.
“Is Grimm…a different kind of mutant?” It was the only way he could think of wording the question without it sounding odd at all. He sighed and shook his head and rubbed the back of his neck. “I ask this only because he doesn’t feel very normal to me at all. I just can’t shake that he has this cold little aura around him that makes me want to run.”
“I’m not fond of using my ability harshly.” He said, remembering how he used it last to cause damage and wanting the thought of his mind forever. That was something there to hinder Ex for a long time, and he was sure one day there would be something to snap him out of it. But until then he was always keeping himself somewhat on a leash, always using his powers more for a defense than to shock someone out of their system. He just stared at Magneto when the man asked him about Grimm, a shiver going up his spine at the thought of the man’s mind whenever he tried to access it.
“It’s empty.” He said, referring to Grimm’s mind but then again, he was sure that it came out rather odd none the less. “Even if I could get into that mind of his it’s like I’m knocking on a door to an empty room. Nothing there at all, no thoughts, no words, not even memories. When I tried your mind I got a hint of there being something there, knowing there was a reason for a block but with him it’s as if I’m trying to get into a black hole.” He sighed and shook his head. “I’m far from against the man being here, he is taking care of Anthea after all…”
Ex just wasn’t exactly sure why the man was doing it… “But if he isn’t a mutant, I mean, all mutants have the same sensations coming from their bodies, from their minds. He has something so very different…”
Ex had stumbled back a bit when the red head swung her arms around his neck, his arms going around her to return the hug as he sighed out and smiled. “I know, I always look around for you to see if you’re alright.” He said, smiling and happy to see that the girl was doing alright. His eyes looked into her room to see how it was filled with so many things for the cat, the very feline that was responsible for the claw marks on her door staring right at him as if it knew he was a telepath, and he heard it hiss at him.
He just shook his head, not being able to keep a chuckle from coming out as he looked down at Anthea. “Cats tend to hate me.” He said honestly, seeing the cat was still hissing and bearing its sharp teeth at him as if he was a threat. It wasn’t until he walked into the girl’s room and let the cat sniff at him that it finally rubbed against his leg and purred, moving back to it’s perch to stretch out and soon enough curl into a tight ball and fall asleep with the sun beaming down onto it’s furr to keep it warm.
“Quite the personality on that cat.” He said, looking over at her and sighing out a bit. “What have you been up to? I don’t see your friend here…”
His job was simple-he had to keep his eyes on Anthea and make sure that she was alright. It wasn’t watching her that was the hard part, most of the time it was the idea that she was around Grimm that made Ex uncomfortable. He couldn’t read the man’s mind to see if he was a threat or not, though after talking to Magneto and seeing how he couldn’t read that man’s mind either he was put at ease for a small bit.
Seeing the girl’s room he saw a few scratch marks on the door, small enough for him to see that it wasn’t from another mutant, it looked like an animal got a hold of the door in a tantrum. He just let out a confused sigh and reached his hand out to knock on her door, shaking his head and remembering how loud she was in his thoughts when she told him about the kitten. “Must be one hell of a kitten.” He said, tapping his foot against the door after already knocking.
“Anthea, it’s me…”
Ex wasn’t very sure how to react to the challenge, he was sure that Magneto could block him out and there was no way he could voice his worries or theories about Grimm without sounding like he was insane. The man got weird vibes from the other, how tall he was and how he swore there was something inhuman to the guy. Yes, he did come to the Brotherhood saying he was a mutant, but that wasn’t what Ex felt, there was something darker there. And what caused more confusion was the fact that Anthea was so safe around him.
“I’ll…alright.” He said, nodding his head to let out a small sigh. It was just going to be a quick test on Magneto and then it would be fine. He watched as the man shut his eyes and he waited a few seconds, shutting his eyes tightly as he waited until he felt is mind try to get to the older man’s. Once he was sure he was close enough he felt a sharp pain in his head, nothing that was really going to cause him to scream, but enough to make Ex back his mind away from the older man’s thoughts, his eyes opening to look up at Magneto.
“Thats so…” He was trying to find the right words for it. “You really learned how to do that… I mean, it’s almost like you have the helmet on but it’s not there.”
Extractor found himself outside, ignoring how the calender read MOTHER’S DAY in bold letters on Sunday. It was being overly bold for his taste and the words were obnoxious. He didn’t have a Mother, not anymore. The woman was alive and in New York with no memory of having a son named Christopher. And Christopher was dead as far as Extractor was concerned. The young man was dead the minute he made someone pull the trigger to their own head.
His brow furrowed a bit, taking a few steps down away from where he stayed in the dorms and keeping his hands in his pockets. He was staring down at the ground and humming lightly to himself. Letting his body move on auto pilot. He could feel Anthea close by, she was prancing around and her waves seemed just fine. She wasn’t in any danger at all and that was his worry. He didn’t want to screw up the job that Magneto had trusted to him.
His eyes shot up to look around him, seeing how the other mutants spent their days having fun or even training themselves. Trying to better themselves for the war that was going to come. It may not come today or tomorrow but it was coming none the less. It was right around the corner and Extractor was sure he was ready for it. Humans did this to him, they made him be a monster and made him do things he would never dream of doing. His hand clutched up into a small fist before loosening up, his body letting out a sigh.
He had so much anger built up inside of him he didn’t think it would come out. It was building up and he knew there was a chance he’d lash out. I have to control this. He thought to himself, and he looked around to let his feet speed up to a light jog, he had to find a way to let his frustration out and running seemed to be the answer to that. Running, just like he did with Callan all those days ago. All that time ago.
Extractor just nodded his head, staring at an empty seat as he moved over to it and sat down. He had to make everything clear in his head so he could say it straight, so he would know how to tell Magneto everything. “She seems to be doing fine.” He said, nodding his head. “She hangs around the mutant named Grimm often and I try to keep an eye on both of them. It’s a bit odd to have him near her because I can’t read his thoughts, but other than that Anthea has assured me that Grimm is a good person.”
Ex just nodded his head a bit. “She sleeps fine, nothing really bothers her aside from small nightmares but I still check on her when her mind doesn’t seem as peaceful as usual.” He looked up at Magneto, hoping that was enough to assure the man that he was doing a good job with his watch over Anthea, he was making sure that she was safe and that she didn’t get so much as a hair removed from her head. He even allowed her to put flowers in his hair whenever she felt she wanted to do so.
“I still find it odd that I can’t get into Grimm’s mind but I guess he just is able to block me out somehow…”
Extractor tried his very best to be wherever Anthea was, he would chase after her as she frolicked around the fields and would even cope with Alonso whenever she was around the man. It was something he was willing to do in order to keep the young woman safe, she was dear to him, and he owed her a lot for being there when he needed her most. She was the sister he never had and more. He just sighed, seeing her curled up asleep only to reach to pull the blanket over the sleeping mutant and stepping away slightly.
He hadn’t spoken to Magneto at all, just saw him when he was told he had to talk to him about Anthea. How he had to be by her side always and Extractor took that order to heart, for Anthea’s sake and because he was so loyal to Magneto. He saw in the man what he never saw in his own father, in his own blood. All he knew was that he was glad his father was behind bars, and the only thing that would make him happier is if he was able to visit him just once to see the look on his face once he allowed him to remember everything for just a few seconds before taking it all away from him.
The young man just slowly made his way to Magneto’s area, listening closely to make sure he was alone and that he wouldn’t be intruding into the man’s daily deeds. He didn’t want to be a burden on anyone, which was one of the main reasons why he kept to himself so much. It was why he hid his name from everyone around him, even if he didn’t consider it to be his name anymore. It was just a shadow he had clouded over himself that was keeping him from taking a step forward, if he was Ex, he was able to run faster and away from everything that grasped at him to keep him back.
“Sir?” He said softly, knocking on the door lightly as he cleared his throat in thought. He didn’t tell the man how Anthea was doing and he wasn’t sure if there were people there to tell him what was going on. He figured telling him she was fine so far was a good thing, and he could sense her every movement in the bedroom from where he was just in case he had to sprint by her side. “It’s Ex…I just wanted to talk to you a bit about what you had me do. It’s nothing bad.”
